The Library offers numerous opportunities for teens in Grades 6-12 to earn Community Service Credit such as: reading to young children, assisting adults with their computer or smart device questions, receiving donations at a Food Bank table, and more.  Here are the options currently available (space is limited):

You may register online, via phone, or in-person at the Information Desk.  Limit of two Community Service Opportunities per child.

Registration for the following Community Service Opportunities:
Wednesday 5/22 @ 7pm for Oceanside School District Residents
Tuesday 5/28 @ 7pm for Non-Residents

Food Bank Collection (Grades 6-12)
Sunday, June 9 // 12-2pm or 2-4pm

Help collect food donations for Cory Cares.

Keva & Special Needs Keva (Grades 9-12)
Wednesday, June 5 // 5-7pm
Wednesdays, July 3 & August 7 // 6-8pm

Teens will help young builders with Keva planks.

Teens “N” Tots Read Together (Grades 6-12)

Whaling Museum (Grades 6-12)
Wednesday, July 31 // 6-8pm

Teens will help young children with crafts presented by the Whaling Museum.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION!!
You may register online, via phone, or in-person.  Payment is due within 3 days of registering.  Pay at the Information Desk in person.  We accept cash (exact change if possible please!) or check made payable to Oceanside Library (unless otherwise noted).  Fees are non-refundable.  Participants in the same class require separate checks.

Chess Club (Grades 4 – High School)
Wednesdays // 4:30pm

Open chess program.  No prior knowledge of the game required.  Snacks will be provided.  Please call the Information Desk: 516-766-2360, option 4 for the most up to date information on club dates.

Study Hall (Grades 7-12)

Teen Video Festival (Grades 6-12)

See original videos by some of Oceanside’s brightest young filmmakers.  Light refreshments will be served.

InnOvation Lab Summer Intensive: Film Intensive (Entering Grades 7-12)
Tuesdays & Thursdays, July 16 - August 15 // 10am-12:30pm // Fee: $15
// Registration Required
Participants will learn about filmmaking, from writing to filming to editing.  They will work in small groups to produce their own 5-minute films.  Space is limited to 15 participants.  It is imperative that participants attend every scheduled session.

InnOvation Lab Summer Intensive: Coding & Design Intensive (Entering Grades 6-9)
Thursdays, July 18, 25, August 1, 8, 15 // 6:30-8:30pm // Fee: $5

Participants will work individually and in groups to design a Merge Cube, design and print something with our 3D printer, work on coding skills, and more! Space is limited to 12 participants.  It is highly encouraged that participants attend all sessions.

GAME ON!!
Video games for Nintendo Switch, Wii, Wii U, XBOX360, XBOX One, and Playstation 4 are located in the Young Adult Department.  Oceanside School District residents (7th grade or older) may check out up to two titles at a time for a 7-day loan period.
